PPDS supplies LED scoreboards for PSV stadium

Four 8m x 4.5m outdoor dvLED displays with 6.67mm pixel pitch replace 12-year-old screens at 35,000-capacity Philips Stadion in the Netherlands

PPDS has supplied four Philips Urban LED 6000 Series scoreboards for the Philips Stadion, home of Dutch football team PSV Eindhoven, designed to deliver enhanced viewing experiences across the 35,000-capacity venue.

The new 8m x 4.5m walls feature a 6.67mm pixel pitch and 10,000 nits of brightness – the company says this represents five times the resolution and double the brightness of the previous 16mm pixel pitch, 5,000-nit screens that had been in place for 12 years.

Each wall delivers high contrast and refresh rates of 7,680Hz for what PPDS describes as smooth visual reproduction, including live broadcasting, with enhanced colour subtlety, shading and saturation. The displays are strategically positioned for fans with up to 30m viewing distances, rather than the traditional two videowall configuration at each end of the stadium.

The Philips Urban LED 6000 Series walls carry an IP65 rating, designed to be resistant to water and airborne pollutants, with operational performance in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 50°C. Each wall operates with a power consumption of 18kW, compared to the original walls’ 23kW consumption.

Local AV specialist and PPDS partner Mansveld Techniek completed the installation in three weeks, ahead of the start of the 2025/26 Eredivisie season. The project requirements included high-quality performance, reliability, flexibility for various hosted events beyond football, and sustainability.

Sjors van den Boogaart, director of Philips Stadion, said: “After more than a decade of service, our displays have made way for the new LED walls in the Philips Stadion, delivering a huge leap in image quality and brightness, which perfectly aligns with our ambitions for innovation. Fans now experience sharper visuals, whilst installations continue to support dynamic and impactful content.”

Koen Vroomen, sales manager Benelux at PPDS, added: “Continuing PPDS’ enviable association and affiliation in designing and providing tailored dvLED solutions to some of the world’s leading professional teams – with FC Barcelona, Oracle Red Bull Racing and Harlequins RFC among those made public – we were delighted to be part of this exciting project.”

PSV Eindhoven is one of the Netherlands’ most successful football teams, with 26 league titles. The club’s association with Philips is entering its 113th year, with Philips recognised by Guinness World Records as holding the longest sponsorship partnership in sports history.
