USSI Global appoints chief revenue officer

The network, broadcast media and digital signage systems and services provider has hired Ed McGivern, the former Appear US president and general manager, to lead its go-to-market strategy and customer acquisition

USSI Global, a network, broadcast media and digital signage systems and services provider, has appointed former Appear US president and general manager Ed McGivern as chief revenue officer, with responsibility for the company’s go-to-market strategy, customer acquisition and revenue growth.

McGivern, who has more than 25 years of industry experience, reports to president and CEO Anthony Morelli.

His previous roles include senior commercial positions at Harris Broadcast/Imagine Communications, Grass Valley/Snell Advanced Media and Tektronix. Most recently, he established Appear’s North American operation in January 2022.

Morelli said: “Ed has an exceptional track record of building businesses and developing the commercial organisations required to sustain that growth. USSI Global is entering a period of tremendous opportunity as our customers navigate another major C-band transition while also confronting broader changes in how they build, operate and support their technology infrastructure.”

The appointment comes as USSI Global prepares for the next phase of the C-band spectrum transition. Having supported customers through the first C-band clearing programme, the company has expanded its engineering, project management and managed services capabilities to support media transport architectures spanning satellite, terrestrial IP, LEO, cloud and hybrid environments.

McGivern will also focus on expanding USSI Global’s managed services activities and developing business in sectors including government, sports and live events. He said declining in-house RF engineering resources within broadcast organisations were creating opportunities for services extending beyond initial deployment and commissioning to areas including ongoing monitoring and connectivity management.

McGivern added: “The commercial strategy starts with understanding the customer’s business and making USSI Global easy to work with. Customers don’t want to navigate complicated organisations. They want partners that understand what they are trying to achieve, can bring the right expertise to the table and can remain engaged throughout the lifecycle of the project.”
