Zixi appoints John Towers as chief financial officer

Former Sony and Fabric Data executive will lead finance as the live video delivery company expands to support customers moving from satellite and legacy infrastructure to IP

Zixi, a provider of software for delivering live video over IP networks, has appointed John Towers as chief financial officer. The company helps broadcasters, sports leagues and streaming platforms manage and distribute live video as they move away from satellite and legacy infrastructure.

Towers will lead its finance function as it scales to meet demand from broadcasters, sports leagues and streaming platforms moving live video delivery from satellite and legacy infrastructure to IP.

He joins from entertainment metadata SaaS company Fabric Data, where he spent three years as CFO, helping expand its operations and services. Previously, he worked in corporate development at Deluxe following its purchase of Sony’s digital video distribution business, a transaction he oversaw.

At Sony, Towers served as COO and president of the digital video distribution division, having joined as CFO in 2012. He was previously CFO of the Sony division responsible for US Blu-ray disc manufacturing, working on the format’s launch in 2006.

Marc Aldrich, CEO of Zixi, said: “John has spent his career inside the kind of transition our customers are going through now. He understands the economics of moving from physical to digital and from legacy to IP, and he has scaled finance and operations at both a global media company and a fast-growing SaaS business. That combination is exactly what we need as Zixi grows.”

Towers began his career in pharmaceutical manufacturing finance, including a five-year posting in Paris.

He commented: “One theme has run through my whole career, from pharmaceutical manufacturing onwards: helping businesses move from old infrastructure to new.”

He added: “Zixi sits at that same turning point today, helping broadcasters, sports leagues and streaming platforms deliver live video reliably over IP rather than costly legacy infrastructure. I have lived through this kind of transition before, and I am looking forward to bringing that experience to the finance function as Zixi scales.”
