Philips TVs bring comfort to German children’s hospice

Thirty MediaSuite models deployed at Sternenbrücke, in Hamburg, to give patients and their families access to personalised home entertainment and shared digital experiences

PPDS and AV integrator AVARA have installed 30 Philips MediaSuite TVs at the Sternenbrücke children’s and youth hospice in Hamburg, replacing an outdated system with a modern, accessible entertainment solution.

Sternenbrücke, which opened in 2003, provides specialist care for children, adolescents, and young adults with life-shortening illnesses. The hospice required a barrier-free system offering familiar home entertainment – streaming services, apps, radio, and gaming – alongside simple navigation and subtitle support.

The Philips MediaSuite TVs, ranging from 32in to 55in, were installed across private and communal areas throughout the building. AVARA connected the displays via PPDS’s CMND server, enabling centralised control and updates across all 30 screens. A dedicated information portal for parents was also integrated, providing access to hospice information and live updates.

Peer Gent from the management team at Stiftung Kinder-Hospiz Sternenbrücke said: “Our new Philips MediaSuite TVs give our guests joy, distraction from the often stressful everyday life, and precious moments together. We are thrilled and would like to thank AVARA and PPDS for their generous support in realising this project.”
