PPDS brings connected TV luxury to Vietnam superyacht hotels

More than 100 Google Cast and Netflix-ready Philips MediaSuite TVs installed across cabins on seven-deck Grand Pioneers I and II vessels in Halong Bay, Northern Vietnam

PPDS has supplied 110 Philips MediaSuite TVs for Vietnam’s Grand Pioneers I and II superyacht hotels in Halong Bay, in Northern Vietnam. The Google Cast and Netflix-ready professional displays, ranging from 50in to 55in, have been fitted inside all cabins on the twin 110m, seven-deck vessels operated by Grand Pioneers.

Working in partnership with IT and AV integration specialist LOGICO, the Philips MediaSuite TV range was selected as the hospitality solution for the maritime project.

Connected to a local media server on board, the displays are designed to allow guests to access terrestrial channels, catch-up services, plus a library of films, shows, music, channels and games.

With Google Cast integrated into the TV, guests can access content from their preferred streaming platforms directly on the screen using their own personal device. Supported platforms include Apple TV+, DAZN, Disney+, Prime and YouTube.

All displays on board utilise PPDS’ CMND remote management platform, which is designed to provide communication opportunities for crew members to reach guests directly in their cabins. The platform brings on-screen customisation opportunities for the Grand Pioneers team to feature tailored backgrounds and additional messaging.

Julian Lim, sales vice-president for APA at PPDS, said: “Since the introduction of Philips MediaSuite, we’ve helped to transform the in-room entertainment experiences in thousands of guestrooms around the world, from small B&Bs and motels to multinational chains and resorts. As with all our solutions, Philips MediaSuite was designed to provide maximum versatility, and the ability to be tailored to any environment our partners and customers required. As demonstrated by this incredible project, this now includes hotels at sea.”

Uy Trinh Trung, IT manager at Grand Pioneers, added: “Philips MediaSuite has surpassed all expectations, and our guests are reaping the benefits. We cannot speak highly enough of the PPDS and Logico teams that combined seamlessly to bring our ambitions to life.”

Halong Bay on Tuan Chau Island is one of Vietnam’s fastest-growing tourist destinations. The Grand Pioneers I and II are operated by Viet Thuan Group, described as the number one waterway bulk cargo transport group in Vietnam.
