Christie Digital Systems Germany is planning to sell its Pandoras Box media server technology to a group of three industry entrepreneurs. The purchasing group is composed of three individuals – Daniel Schäfer, one of the founders of Coolux, a media server technology company, consultant Daniel Kaminski, and long-time user of the Pandoras Box technology Andre Maier.
Christie Germany has entered into “a letter of intent” to negotiate a binding agreement for the sale of Pandoras Box, which is a suite of pro AV software and hardware tools used for show control, projection mapping, image compositing, and interactive applications.
Christie says the transaction will allow the three individuals, who it says have an extensive understanding of the product line and the market, to continue to grow the Pandoras Box real-time rendering engine and control system solution. Both companies are working toward finalising a purchase agreement.
Pandoras Box was originally developed by the Cologne-based company Coolux, which Christie acquired in 2015.
Schäfer said: “Our passion for Pandoras Box runs deep – more than 50 years combined. As a team, we bring knowledge and experience as end users, customers, consultants, and in technical operations. We’re eager to explore and expand its capabilities, providing the best real-time rendering engine and control system on the market for our customers.”
Michael Phipps, president and COO of Christie, added: “Pandoras Box users worldwide will benefit greatly from these three individuals’ ingenuity and expertise in software and hardware design and operations. I’m pleased with our strategic decision to sell the product line to this dedicated team.”
Christie says this impending purchase agreement will allow it to streamline and re-focus on its core strengths.
