Audioscenic appoints Chris Spearing as CEO

Southampton, UK-based spatial audio specialist hires former Sony consumer division executive to drive partnerships across gaming, PC and new device categories

Audioscenic, the Southampton, UK-based spatial audio technology company, has appointed Chris Spearing as CEO. Spearing, formerly vice president of Sony’s consumer division, brings experience spanning partnerships, market development and distribution in both professional and consumer-facing technology.

Audioscenic licenses its personalised Beamcasting technology to consumer electronics brands. It is designed to deliver headset-free, 3D spatial audio from a device’s built-in speakers, without the need for multi-speaker systems. The technology is already integrated into “powered by Audioscenic” products from Lenovo, Razer, Acer and Dell, and won Best in Show at CES 2023 from audioXpress.

Spearing’s appointment comes as Audioscenic continues to expand its relationships across the consumer electronics, gaming and audio industries. It follows the 2026 launch of the company’s Windows audio processing object (APO) and its first commercial laptop implementation in Lenovo’s Legion series. In his new role, Spearing will focus on sharpening the company’s strategy, developing key partnerships and expanding the reach of its technology across new products, platforms and markets.

Spearing has spent his career helping technology businesses identify new opportunities and turn products into commercial growth. His previous roles include strategic adviser and senior positions at PDP, Logitech and Microsoft, across the audio and gaming sectors where Audioscenic already has partnerships.

John Croteau, executive chairman at Audioscenic, said: “Chris brings exactly the combination of commercial experience, industry relationships and partnership-led growth that Audioscenic needs for its next stage. His understanding of consumer electronics, along with his track record of building businesses through strategic partnerships, will be invaluable as we continue to scale Audioscenic.”

Spearing added: “I’m excited to be joining Audioscenic at such an important point in the company’s development. Our technology has the potential to fundamentally change how people experience audio. From making tools to create immersive audio more accessible to creators, to bringing that same technology to a wide range of devices, from laptops and soundbars to gaming systems and displays – bringing a new level of immersion, delivering the audio experience the creator intended.”

He added: “Most people still associate spatial audio with headphones or complex multi-speaker surround sound systems. Our job is to change that expectation by showing what is possible: immersive, directional sound, straight from the speakers already built into the devices people use every day. Our integration with Lenovo Legion proves it works at scale on a laptop. The next step is bringing that same experience to more brands, more categories and across more price points, making it something consumers simply expect.”
