Lafayette College, Pennsylvania, US has upgraded its Fisher Stadium with Community Pro R-Series loudspeakers.
As a member of the intercollegiate Patriot League – an athletics organisation – Lafayette has an active sports and recreational program with modern facilities including Fisher Stadium, home of the Lafayette Leopards football team.
Last year, Communication Systems of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was tasked with redesigning the coverage of the sound system. New seating areas weren’t covered after upgrades dating back to 2006 and there were neighborhood spill issues. In addition, many spectators complained that the new subwoofers seemed overpowering.
Part of the solution involved re-aiming four Community R.5-94Ts two-way, full-range loudspeakers, which were covering the visitor seating, and a pair of Community WET loudspeakers on the press box. Communications Systems then deployed two new Community R2-94 loudspeakers on the press box to improve coverage in the home team bleachers. The original subs installed during the 2006 revamp were actually disconnected because the R2s provided excellent bass performance on their own. In addition, at the school’s request, Becker added four new Community R.5-94Ts two-way full range loudspeakers on a lower wall facing the field for use during practice.
The new system includes coverage of the tailgating area outside the stadium and improvements in the private suites inside the press building. Biamp Audia Flex with integrated daVinci software provides touch-screen presets for pregame and game configurations along with zone level controls and DSP delay for the visitor seating loudspeakers. Existing amplifiers were reused to control costs.
Becker finished: “Announcements are clear and intelligible. We;ve solved the neighborhood spill problem. And, the coaches got 110dB on the 50 yard line to simulate crowd noise during practice!?”
