Canon’s first 4K projector is world’s smallest and lightest

Canon Europe has announced its entry into the 4K projection market with the Canon XEED 4K500ST, which is claimed to be the world’s smallest and lightest 4K installation projector.

Canon Europe has announced its entry into the 4K projection market with the Canon XEED 4K500ST, which is claimed to be the world’s smallest and lightest 4K installation projector.

Designed for a wide range of applications including simulation, medical imaging and engineering, XEED 4K500ST features a 4,096 x 2,400 LCOS panel, exceeding 4K digital cinema resolution. Canon’s improved AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) optical system delivers an increased contrast ratio, deep, pure colours and strong reproduction of black areas.

The XEED 4K500ST features constant brightness of 5,000 lumens across the entire zoom range. Thanks to a newly developed 4K wide zoom lens, the XEED 4K500ST can project large images from a short distance, and also project images onto curved screens thanks to a peripheral focusing function. The lens has a constant aperture (‘F’ number) across the entire zoom range and maintains an aperture of F2.6, regardless of zoom position – meaning the brightness at the telephoto end of the zoom range will be almost the same as at the wide end. This makes the projector easy to install and reposition without rebalancing ambient light.

Weighing 17.6kg, including the lens, the XEED 4K500ST is the world’s lightest 4K projector, and thanks to its compact size it can fit unobtrusively into a variety of installed environments.

With a low latency time of 16.6ms, said to be the lowest for any 4K projector on the market, the XEED 4K500ST is highly suited to simulation environments. The lamp and filter are easily accessible, even once the projector has been installed, making it quick and easy to service.

Multiple XEED 4K500ST projectors can be combined to provide large-scale blended images with very little distortion. Four-corner keystone correction for edge blending makes the set-up process for this simple and achievable.

In “Eco mode” the lamp uses just 470W and lasts up to 4,000 hours. Under Canon’s three-year lamp warranty, up to three free replacement lamps may be claimed if a lamp fails, effectively eliminating the cost of replacement lamps and substantially lowering the running cost.

“Canon’s aim is to establish itself as the leading company in the 5,000-10,000 lumen 4K installation market. Today’s launch is the first significant step on that journey,” said Andreas Herrnböck, European business development manager projector, visual communications, Canon Europe. “The XEED 4K500ST is designed to meet increasing market demand for high resolution, high quality imaging performance, even in close range installations. The compact casing and ultra-modular design make it convenient to install, and incredibly easy to manage.”

The XEED 4K500ST will be available in the first half of 2016.
