Sony’s VPL-GTZ380 native 4K projectors are powering the La Coupole Planetarium in northern France. The ‘History and Remembrance Center’ is offering visitors unforgettable journeys through the Universe in a 360° 15m, high-contrast digital viewing dome boasting 12x 4K VPL-GTZ380 models with SXRD 4K panels.
Working with RSA Cosmos, the planetarium installed the latest version of its astronomical software SkyExplorer 2021. The 3D Planetarium now achieves a total brightness of 120,000 lumens thanks to technologies from Sony and RSA Cosmos.
“The goal of this modernisation project was to achieve an image quality we no longer had,” said Nicolas Fiolet, planetarium manager. “Thanks to the Sony projectors, we obtain a magnificent sky, splendid colours and great contrasts.”
RSA Cosmos also installed new seats integrating its Audience Response system for dynamic, interactive planetarium sessions. Each armrest is equipped with one control panel allowing the audience to participate in quizzes, select certain scenarios and take direct control of the movement of the camera in the simulation.
