Sony and VITEC join forces on IPTV and signage integration

Sony’s BRAVIA professional displays will run VITEC’s Avedia IPTV and digital signage platform natively, removing the need for external media players

Sony Electronics and VITEC have announced a global collaboration to integrate Sony’s BRAVIA professional displays with VITEC’s Avedia IPTV and digital signage platform, targeting corporate, entertainment, hospitality, healthcare and public sector venues.

The integration runs VITEC’s Avedia player software directly on the system-on-a-chip of Sony’s Android-based BRAVIA professional displays, removing the need for external media players. The companies say this simplifies deployment and management, and lowers the total cost of ownership for end users.

The setup is orchestrated by VITEC’s content management system, which the companies say can support thousands of displays across a range of screen sizes from a single point of control. It covers live IPTV channels, interactive signage and targeted advertising, with content that can be adapted in real time.

Rik Willemse, head of professional display solutions Europe at Sony Europe, said: “By combining Sony’s world-class display technology with VITEC’s powerful IPTV and signage platform, we are delivering a game-changing solution across many verticals. This collaboration allows operators and end users to create dynamic, engaging environments while simplifying installation and reducing operational complexity.”

Rich Ventura, vice president of professional display solutions America at Sony Electronics, added similar comments on the ease of deployment the partnership is intended to offer integrators and end users.

Eli Garten, senior vice president of global IPTV and partner solutions at VITEC, added: “This strategic global collaboration between VITEC and Sony marks the beginning of an evolving collaboration focused on delivering innovative, secure, and scalable IPTV and digital signage solutions worldwide. By integrating our technologies and expertise, we are committed to providing customers with seamless, future-ready platforms and workflows that address the diverse needs of modern organisations.”

The companies say the solution is built for large-scale, mission-critical deployments, with centralised content control, redundancy features and support for current security standards to protect content end-to-end.

Both companies have also pointed to sustainability credentials. Sony’s BRAVIA professional displays include energy-saving features such as light sensors and automatic power-down modes, while their Android-based architecture reduces the need for additional peripheral hardware. VITEC operates its GreenPEG initiative, a five-point strategy aimed at reducing the carbon footprint across its value chain, alongside its wider IPTV portfolio, which includes head-end encoding and streaming, IP gateways and video wall systems.
