AV & Broadcast Summit: Audio convergence takes centre stage

Analysts from TAD, Production Park, Hewshott and RS Sound will examine how audio technologies are helping drive convergence between broadcast and pro AV at the inaugural event next week, co-hosted by Installation and TVBEurope, on June 24 in London

The growing overlap between broadcast and pro AV audio technologies will be the focus of the final panel at the inaugural AV & Broadcast Summit, taking place in London on June 24 and co-hosted by Installation and TVBEurope. The panel will feature experts from TAD, Hewshott, Production Park and RS Sound.

Scheduled for 315pm-345pm, The Networking of Sound: Audio at the Intersection of Broadcast and AV will explore how technologies once associated primarily with broadcast and live production are increasingly being deployed across enterprise AV, unified communications and large-scale events.

Moderated by Rob Lane, content director at Installation, the discussion will examine how audio became one of the earliest points of convergence between broadcast and AV, and how developments in IP networking, wireless technologies, intercom systems and software-defined control are continuing to blur the boundaries between the two sectors.

Among the panellists is Emma Bigg, AV design consultant, TAD. Having begun her career in live production specialising in audio, Bigg later moved into systems integration before establishing her own consultancy. Her experience spans performance venues, hospitality, education, houses of worship and corporate environments, providing a broad perspective on how audio technologies are deployed across multiple sectors.

Joining her is Darren Gatenby, senior technology consultant and head of higher education, Hewshott. Gatenby works closely with universities on digital transformation and technology strategy projects, with experience helping institutions adopt new technologies to enhance learning environments and operational efficiency.

Phil Adlam works at Production Park as CTO and head of XPLOR, leading on technology development for the future of live experience. Recent accomplishments include establishing the UK’s first northern virtual production studio, real-time AI applications, 4D capture, audio simulation environments and ‘at scale’ metadata & acquisition systems.

Completing the panel is Richard Sillitto, sound supervisor, RS Sound. Sillitto has worked across a wide range of high-profile television and live event productions, including Strictly Come Dancing, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool and the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony. His expertise spans sound recording, mixing and production workflows across both broadcast and live event environments.

The session will explore how manufacturers and end users are adapting audio technologies for wider deployment, and what greater convergence means for interoperability, scalability and system design across broadcast and AV applications.

AV & Broadcast Summit is a one-day event co-hosted by Installation and TVBEurope, bringing together practitioners from both sectors to examine shared workflows, technologies and opportunities across IP, cloud, virtual production, AI, audio and control room design.

Other sessions throughout the day include:

AV & Broadcast Convergence: Where Are We Now?
