Sony has launched a combination of laser and lamp mid-brightness projectors to meet diverse installation and budget requirements for business, academic, large venue and entertainment use.
There are two 3LCD laser models, VPL-FHZ65 and VPL-FHZ60, unveiled expand Sony’s growing line of Z-Phosphor laser light source projectors and the new lamp-based projectors include the VPL-FH65 and VPL-FH60.
The new WUXGA laser models deliver brightness of 6,000 lumens (VPL-FHZ65) and 5,000 lumens (VPL-FHZ60), and lamp models deliver 6,000 lumens (VPL-FH65) and 5,000 lumens (VPL-FH60) and use BrightEra panel technology.
New features such as ‘Reality Creation’ and ‘Contrast Enhancer’ deliver enhanced picture quality, which are technologies currently used in Sony’s home cinema projectors. Reality Creation is a Super Resolution algorithm that analyses and processes every input signal to refine detail, clarity and sharpness for naturally up-scaled images. Contrast Enhancer automatically adjusts the contrast visible on the screen for optimum viewing and details.
In addition, the projectors offer Colour Space adjustment, which allows users to adjust individual coordinates of red, green and blue primaries as well as choosing from three different colour space pre-sets. The Colour Correction feature enables customers to fine tune hue, brightness and saturation of six different colour ranges.

The laser light source offers up to 20,000 hours of maintenance free operation which combines with a range of energy-saving features to bring total lifetime ownership costs down compared to conventional lamp-based projectors.
The laser projectors also feature a constant brightness mode to maintain the brightness level through the expected life of the light source by running the projector with approximately 25% reduced light output.
All the four new models come with HDBaseT interfaces built-in, enabling easier connectivity and reducing total system costs by using a single category cable which runs all the video, audio, control and IP signal up to 100m.
They also feature a wide powered lens shift, allowing them to be installed in challenging environments, for example keeping audiences’ line of sight by installing the projector high above the screen, or horizontally avoiding HVAC ducts on the ceiling.
