Meridian Live event showcases new Ellipse compact loudspeaker

Attendees were able to hear the nuances of Meridian’s sound technology in a variety of settings, including a cinema room, office space, open large space, and dedicated sound room

The recent Meridian Live event at the company’s HQ in Huntingdon, UK, was an opportunity to unveil the latest addition to its product lineup, the Meridian Ellipse loudspeaker. Featuring a series of demonstrations, discussions, and hands-on experiences, the event provided attendees with an in-depth look at Ellipse’s sound technology and design.

Split across two days, the first day saw international partners for an exclusive debut of Meridian’s latest product. The following day was geared towards the brand’s UK installers.

Spread across four spaces, attendees were able to hear the nuances of Meridian’s sound technology in a variety of settings, including a cinema room, office space, open large space, and dedicated sound room, providing real-life situations.

Meridian says there are 12 key technologies employed within Ellipse. One of the most important is ‘Bass & Space’ and Ellipse is the first home audio product within Meridian’s product range to incorporate it. Bass & Space allows Ellipse to create a vast, spatial soundstage, that the company claims far exceeds expectations given its compact form. Intimate talk groups, led by Meridian’s engineering experts, facilitated open discussions room-by-room.

Ryan Donaher, owner, APEX Technologies, commented: “I’ve been working with Meridian since the 1990s and I’m absolutely blown away by the performance of the new Ellipse. The size, scale, speed and tonality of the sound is unlike anything Meridian has ever done. How Meridian continues to innovate with all of these new technologies and put them into such a small and compact platform isn’t like anything we’ve seen before.”

Sasha Defranceschi, CTO and co-owner, Adeo Screen, said: “It’s a truly high-end stereo speaker in a very small package. Many things impressed me about the loudspeaker, such as how deep and extended in frequency it was and how clean all the sounds were. There are two features that really impressed me the most. Firstly, the spaciousness that it creates. It’s a single loudspeaker but it builds a huge soundstage. Secondly, how it fills the room and how it sounds like you’re listening to the surround system with certain tracks and not with a single loudspeaker.”

It is the third loudspeaker to emerge from Meridian’s Extreme Engineering Programme. The breakout sessions enabled integrators to discuss the technological manufacturing and innovation of the Ellipse, including its Image Elevation technology, which allows the listener to adjust the perceived sound height of the loudspeaker so that it provides a natural listening experience at the height of their seating position.
