Vaillant Live, Derby’s purpose‑built multi‑use venue, has invested in two JBL sound systems to meet the demands of its varied programme. Opened last year as part of the Becketwell Regeneration scheme, the 3,500‑capacity site is operated by ASM Global and sponsored by heating manufacturer Vaillant, with technology forming a core part of its offering.
Consultants IPW developed a flexible layout that includes a 400‑capacity second space, specifying a JBL VTX A8 line array for the main auditorium. Working with Live Technology, IPW designed a system based on the dual‑8in VTX A8, a compact array with 110° dispersion suited to mid‑sized venues and installations.
NuWay Audio Visual installed 26 VTX A8 cabinets and eight VTX B18 subs in the main room, while Vaillant Live also purchased a portable JBL SRX910 system for use across smaller spaces. The SRX910, part of the SRX900 Series, is a powered 10in line array with built‑in DSP and amplification, paired at the venue with SRX928 subs for pop‑up PA applications.
Callum Jones, technical manager, said: “The VTX system in the main auditorium is performing exactly as we anticipated it would, providing great coverage for the entire auditorium. The SRX system has proved to be excellently suited for easy setups in the venue’s smaller spaces.”
Jones added that support from Live Technology was crucial during commissioning: “Live Technology played a vital role in the implementation of the auditorium’s new system, and we really couldn’t have wished for better support for our site engineers.”
