CODA Audio system supports Knicks championship celebrations

AiRAY line arrays, sensor-controlled subwoofers and distributed loudspeaker elements were deployed for basketball team New York Knicks’ NBA championship parade, including a concert by Alicia Keys

CODA Audio technology was deployed to provide sound reinforcement for basketball’s New York Knicks’ recent championship celebration in New York City, following the team’s NBA Finals victory. The event saw an estimated 2m people line the Canyon of Heroes parade route before celebrations continued at City Hall, where the audio system was required to support speeches, music playback and a live performance from Alicia Keys.

Eastern Stage Productions (ESP) selected a CODA Audio system built around the manufacturer’s AiRAY compact line array loudspeaker, supported by additional CODA elements including CiRAY, N-RAY and HOPS series loudspeakers, as well as sensor-controlled subwoofers and LINUS14D DSP amplifiers.

The system was configured to provide coverage across the wide stage and audience area in front of New York City Hall. Two main hangs each combined 4 AiRAY and 6 CiRAY loudspeakers, with 2 SCP-F sensor-controlled 2 x 18in subwoofers per side.

Additional coverage was provided by seven ground stacks, each comprising 3 AiRAY elements with a single SC2-F sensor-controlled 2 x 15in bass extension. The system also included HOPS8T loudspeakers for dais fills, HOPS8 units for backstage fills, HOPS12 loudspeakers for centre fills, and N-RAY line array elements covering side seating areas.

Low-frequency reinforcement was extended with a further 10 SCP-F subwoofers, while stage monitoring was handled by 6 CUE FOUR 3-way monitors. The complete system was powered by 12 CODA Audio LINUS14D 4-channel DSP amplifiers.

ESP owner Bill Danilczyk said: “I chose the CODA Audio system for the Knicks celebration because of its clean and clear coherency, phase alignment, high output and small footprint, amongst other benefits. These features made it the perfect system to work with for an application like this.”

Danilczyk added: “The AiRAY loudspeakers combined with the SC2 low-end extensions keep the PA warm, allowing the articulation of the mid-high drivers to sparkle. The SCP-F sensor-controlled subs are amazing. They are tight and deep, allowing the whole system to lock in – sonically, they are very smooth to the ear. CODA Audio continues to exceed my expectations time and time again for these large-scale, high-profile events.”
