NanoLumens files lawsuits against four LED display manufacturers

Story updated Wednesday 14 June to include statements from InFiLED USA LLC and DetaiLED Solutions LLC.

NanoLumens has released an official statement revealing the company has filed patent infringement lawsuits against LED display manufacturers: PixelFLEX, InFiLED USA, DetaiLED Solutions and Gable Company for unspecified damages stemming from the companies’ infringement of four US patents issued to NanoLumens.

According to official release from NanoLumens, the decision to file suit in federal court was not undertaken lightly and follows repeated good faith efforts and multiple communications by NanoLumens to resolve its concerns with the four companies to create meaningful business relationships. “NanoLumens has invested millions of dollars and man hours in the development of pioneering innovations that have been justly recognised by the United States Patent Office,” said CEO Rick Cope. “Patent protected innovation is what makes the United States the leading innovator that it is. Failure to protect against patent infringement opens the door to the death of innovation and that is not something that this company will ever stand for.”

The lawsuits allege that PixelFLEX, InFiLED USA, DetaiLED, and Gable Company have, in one form or another, infringed upon US Patents 8,963,895 (Ubiquitously Mountable Image Display System), 9,159,707 (Flexible Display), and 9,640,516 (Flexible Display Apparatus and Methods), all of which are owned by NanoLumens. Currently, NanoLumens holds over a dozen United States Patents covering virtually every aspect of its flexible LED display design and engineering, with more patents pending.

“These four companies are benefitting from the use of NanoLumens’ proprietary technology that we have invested considerable time and resources in developing,” added Cope. “Our intellectual property is the core of our company’s uniqueness and we will vigorously protect it.”

The statement from NanoLumens added that the company’s vision of a universal modular display that can be built in any size, shape, curvature, or pixel density has been its singular focus for many years. That focus has led to numerous innovations, patents and patents pending covering key aspects of the technology portfolio that, collectively, deliver superb performance in the NanoLumens flexible Nixel display module. Patented features enable the NanoLumens Nixel display module to seamlessly tile and re-tile display surfaces, accept a wide continuum of changing curvatures and placements, and maintain pixel-to-pixel uniformity.

Installation has contacted all parties concerned for comment. PixelFLEX issued this statement in response: “Other than reading the public posting from NanoLumens, PixelFLEX is unaware of any lawsuit or filings made by NanoLumens. If in fact a lawsuit has been filed, we will then take the appropriate measures to respond accordingly. At this time PixelFLEX is unable to provide any detailed response or exert any defences to the alleged lawsuit.”

InFiLED USA and DetaiLED Solutions issued the following in response: “InFiLED USA LLC and DetaiLED Solutions LLC of Marietta, GA recently have learned that Nanolumens filed a complaint against them alleging infringement of US Patents 8,963,895 (Ubiquitously Mountable Image Display System), 9,159,707 (Flexible Display), and 9,640,516 (Flexible Display Apparatus and Methods). The suit against InFiLED USA LLC and DetaiLED Solutions LLC is without merit. Neither company has imported, marketed, sold, or offered for sale any of the products mentioned in the suit. The companies will be working with their lawyers to vigorously contest the allegations of infringement.”
