Samsung has announced a 14m screen width format for its Onyx ICD cinema LED lineup, expanding the platform into larger premium auditoriums. The announcement was made at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas.
The new format joins existing 5m and 10m models in the Onyx ICD range and is designed for premium large-format theatres. It features a 3.3mm pixel pitch and supports flexible scaling, allowing individual LED cabinets to be added to the sides and bottom to extend the display up to 20m – more than doubling the total screen area.
The system supports up to 4K at 120Hz and delivers peak brightness of up to 300 nits, with 100 percent colour volume at peak brightness and compatibility with Dolby and GDC media servers.
Beyond cinema, Samsung positions Onyx as suited to live sports, concerts, gaming events and corporate presentations, with consistent brightness and image quality regardless of screen size or seating position.
The platform has seen growing adoption in premium cinema environments. Pathé Dar Essalam in Rabat, Morocco has installed 12 Onyx screens across four auditoriums in 10m, 5m and 6.4m configurations, making Pathé the largest Onyx operator in Europe. In the US, Trilith Cinemas in Fayetteville, Georgia became the first American theatre to install the latest Onyx generation in December 2025.
Hyoung Jae Kim, executive vice president of the visual display business at Samsung Electronics, said: “Samsung’s new 14m Onyx gives exhibitors a way to bring the premium experience to larger auditoriums, helping turn moviegoing into a superior, immersive experience.”
