Electro-Voice releases new portable column speakers

The second-generation EVOLVE 30M G2, 50 G2 and 50M G2 raise maximum SPL to 125dB and 129dB and add switchable 48V phantom power, alongside version 3.0 of the QuickSmart app

Electro-Voice has launched the EVOLVE G2 series of portable powered column loudspeakers, the second generation of a family introduced in 2017. The EVOLVE 30M G2, EVOLVE 50 G2 and EVOLVE 50M G2 will be available worldwide from October 22. The 30M G2 has an integrated mixer and weighs 42.8lb (19.4kg), the 50 G2 is aimed at mid-sized to large event spaces, and the 50M G2 adds a built-in mixer.

Maximum SPL rises to 125dB on the 30M G2 and 129dB on the 50 and 50M G2, with a 120° x 40° coverage pattern. Switchable 48V phantom power replaces the always-on 15V phantom power of the first generation, allowing condenser microphones to connect directly. QuickSmart Link on all models connects two speakers with a standard Ethernet cable, and Bluetooth range has been extended. The redesigned subwoofer handles and a full-colour LCD showing real-time system feedback complete the hardware changes.

Software features include Advanced Feedback Suppression, automatic ducking and an expanded FX bank, with one FX bank on the 50 and two on the mixer models. The free QuickSmart App 3.0 for iOS and Android adds multi-speaker management, True Wireless Stereo configuration and speaker grouping, with over-the-air firmware updates. The larger EVOLVE 70 and 90 are compatible with the new app and can be combined with other EVOLVE models under a single app. Every parameter can still be set on the speaker via the single-knob control and rear LCD. All models carry a three-year warranty, extendable to five years with product registration.

Andy Grunloh, director of product management at Electro-Voice, said: “We never asked what was good enough, we asked what professionals actually need. EVOLVE G2 is the answer, with more performance, smarter control, and a system that grows with you. The people who live and die by their gear will feel the difference immediately.”
