Powersoft amps drive upgrade for agriculture institute’s HQ

Quattrocanali DSP+D amps deployed, alongside tech from Bose, Shure and Q-SYS, to overhaul main auditorium at headquarters of Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, San José, Costa Rica

Powersoft’s Quattrocanali DSP+D amplifiers are at the heart of the modernisation of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA)’s main auditorium in San José, Costa Rica. The compact, Dante-enabled amplifiers drive a newly installed, networked sound system designed to support international meetings and high-level government sessions.

The system, designed and installed by regional integrator Bansbach Akustik, replaces a legacy portable setup and is designed to deliver high intelligibility for the IICA’s international delegations and senior officials.

Two Powersoft Quattrocanali amplifiers — a 1204 DSP+D and a 2404 DSP+D — provide eight powered channels across the venue. The amplifiers support Dante audio networking and offer on-board signal processing, features that allow precise zone control and integration with the rest of the digital system.

The installation supports a reconfigurable auditorium layout that can be split into three independent audio zones, with sound delivered through a combination of 22 Bose Professional loudspeakers. These include 12 ceiling speakers, four ceiling-mounted subwoofers, two linear speakers flanking the main stage, and two stage monitors. Audio is managed through a Q-SYS Core 110f v2 processor, with touchscreen control, and a Shure SLX-D wireless and conference mic system ensures reliable speech capture.

The Quattrocanali range is designed for small to mid-sized permanent installs. The company says it offers  the same sonic performance as its higher-output models but in a compact 1RU format. The DSP+D versions extend the functionality for AVoIP environments, offering scalable deployment in venues like conference centres, theatres, and government buildings.

Werner Bansbach, chief executive officer of Bansbach Akustik, said: “We chose Powersoft’s Quattrocanali because its features, the ability to support audio via Dante, the number of channels, and the available power more than met all our requirements.”

The new system was recently used for a joint meeting and study tour by government ministers from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), marking the first official deployment of the upgraded audio infrastructure.

Bansbach added: “IICA has 34 member countries, with its headquarters hosting senior officials and international visitors, so the exposure for our company and our technology partners is very broad. Since the installation, we’ve had excellent feedback on both the high sound quality and the reliability of the equipment.”
