Powersoft amplifiers upgrade South Korean malls

Mix of Mezzo, Quattrocanali and Duecanali models deployed in open-air shopping centres in Busan and Yeoju

Powersoft’s install amplifier platforms supported a major AV upgrade at two of South Korea’s leading retail destinations in Busan and Yeoju, both Shinsegae Premium Outlets. The project, delivered by Powersoft distributor LCS Global, replaced ageing amplifiers with modern networked platforms powering both background music (BGM) and public-address (PA) systems.

The company said the upgrade was designed to restore coverage in hard-to-reach areas, improve operational convenience, and provide a stable, reliable system suitable for sites operating 365 days a year.

Both sites featured multiple smaller buildings lining pedestrian streets, with amplifiers housed in insulated rooms. The Yeoju centre combined CobraNet and AVB networking, while Busan was migrated to a Dante and QLAN architecture, with redundant audio paths to ensure uninterrupted operation.

LCS Global deployed a mix of Powersoft Mezzo, Quattrocanali and Duecanali amplifiers in combination with Bose, JBL, QUAD and Biamp loudspeakers. The compact 1U Mezzo units and flexible Quattrocanali amplifiers allowed for maximum channel count while saving rack space, in some cases achieving eight channels in a single rack unit.

For monitoring and control, LCS Global used Powersoft’s ArmoníaPlus software, giving staff the ability to manage power, mute status, levels and output impedance across both sites from a single interface. The system also allowed early detection of line or loudspeaker issues before they became audible.

Powersoft says the new systems deliver greater clarity and headroom than the previous amplifiers, with richer low-frequency reproduction and a more immersive background music experience.

Jeong Wang-ho, project team leader, said: “The client asked us to maintain high performance, ensure broad compatibility with existing components and make the system easier to service. By switching to Powersoft, we were able to restore coverage in zones that had gone quiet due to amplifier failures, reduce heat generation and offer operators real-time monitoring of every output channel. The experience at these malls has really confirmed our belief that, for us, ‘digital amplifiers mean Powersoft’.”

Jeong added: “Although it wasn’t an easy decision to prioritise sound quality in a non-performance environment, the combination of superior audio, ease of maintenance and operational reliability proved that it was a highly worthwhile and justifiable investment from the end customer.”
