Nanolumens’ Performance Series outdoor LED technology has been installed atop US freight rail operator CSX Transportation’s headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida. The display features the company’s modern logo alongside a locomotive image, positioned across four distinct rooftop signs on the 251ft building overlooking the St Johns River.
Phase Integration, a commercial technology solutions provider, turned to Nanolumens for the project having previously worked together on Brightline Station in Miami, where custom LED displays were engineered for a three-storey column at a 15-degree pitch. The CSX installation, however, presented additional complexity.
Casey Morris, senior director of operations at Phase Integration, said: “Unlike Brightline Station, which was mostly straight lines, this installation includes four distinct rooftop signs that define the Jacksonville skyline. There’s not another building in town that has anything like it.”
Nanolumens worked closely with Phase Integration throughout the project, from renderings and logo files through to digital simulations, allowing the client to visualise the design before installation. Morris added: “If we compare the renderings to the final installation today, they’re almost identical.”
The Performance Series is designed for outdoor environments, with each cabinet IP67-rated for protection against dust, water and harsh weather, and backed by a three-year extendable warranty. Morris said the warranty coverage gave the integrator confidence in the technology’s long-term performance, alongside its six-year warranty for indoor displays.
The signs are configured to adapt for community events, switching from CSX’s core branding to display teal colours and a jaguar graphic for Jacksonville Jaguars games, or an American flag design for July 4.
Morris said: “The new signs are more than branding. They provide CSX with a flexible canvas for community engagement.”
