JBL Professional 708 studio monitors and Crown amplifiers have been installed throughout a new portable 9.1.4 Dolby Atmos studio at Waterloo Sound, a Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision post-production studio based inside Austin’s Waterloo Records. The studio is built within the Nu•Studio System, a modular, reconfigurable studio infrastructure that installs in days and can be relocated or reconfigured as needs change.
The monitors are deployed at every ear-level and overhead position, concealed behind acoustically transparent wall screens alongside acoustic treatment and overhead ultra-short-throw projectors, creating a critical listening environment for immersive mixing and vinyl mastering.
Jon Niess, who partnered with Waterloo Sound on the project, said: “We chose JBL 708s throughout the entire 9.1.4 system because we wanted a truly consistent, full-range monitoring environment in every direction. I’ve become a big believer in having real low-end capability and headroom in every channel – including the surrounds and overheads – so an Atmos object maintains the same tonal character and impact wherever it moves in the room.”
