Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes, in Australia, has installed a venue-wide audio system using more than 80 JBL Professional loudspeakers powered by Crown amplifiers, designed to allow hotel staff to manage most AV requirements internally without dedicated on-site technicians.
The hotel, developed by The Pelligra Group in partnership with ONE7 and IHG Hotels & Resorts, opened as northern Adelaide’s first premium full-service hotel, anchored by a 14m-high atrium and four conference and event spaces totalling 442sqm, including the Shoalhaven Ballroom, supporting up to 250 guests.
The system was designed and deployed by integration firm Corporate Initiatives, spanning reception, lobby spaces, restaurants, bars, conference facilities, public amenities and recreational areas. The installation includes 14 JBL Control 16 ceiling loudspeakers across reception, lobby and amenities areas; 25 JBL Control 18C/T loudspeakers supporting ballroom spaces, the gymnasium and other high-traffic zones; three JBL Control 24CT loudspeakers in elevator areas; 20 JBL Control 65 pendant speakers in the bar, restaurant and reception environments; 20 JBL SLP14 surface-mount loudspeakers across the balcony and atrium; and four JBL 8128 in-ceiling loudspeakers in select gym and reception areas. The system is powered throughout by Crown amplifiers, providing centralised control and zone management.
Faisal Sayed, general manager at Corporate Initiatives, said: “Music creates an emotional connection. It sets the tone, energy and mood in every space. It supports the brand experience, activates areas commercially and helps deliver seamless conferencing. A good sound system is fundamental.”
He added: “The bar is more upbeat, the restaurant more refined. Volume and voicing matter too – high ceilings, outdoor zones and intimate spaces all behave differently. We continue fine tuning over time because it’s such a fundamental part of how guests experience the hotel.”
Gayan Dias, strategic relationships manager at Corporate Initiatives, said: “We’re working closely with IHG on standardising audiovisual platforms across its hotels. JBL offers the versatility we need, from indoor to outdoor applications, and when paired with Crown amplifiers, it provides the zoning sophistication and reliability hotels require.”
Amy Davies, director of marketing and sales at Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes, said: “Most clients only need a microphone, a lectern and a screen. What sets our spaces apart is that all the technology is already there. Guests can host professional events without bringing in external AV or additional equipment.”
Nick Screen, vice president and general manager at HARMAN Professional Solutions, APAC, added: “Hotels today need AV systems that are powerful and flexible, but also intuitive for non-technical staff. A unified ecosystem like JBL and Crown allows venues such as Crowne Plaza Adelaide Mawson Lakes to move seamlessly between conferencing, events and social settings while maintaining a consistent guest experience.”
