Broadcast technology company TSL has acquired JLCooper Electronics, the US manufacturer of professional control, automation, synchronisation, and interfacing products, following the death of company founder Jim Cooper.

The acquisition moves JLCooper’s production operations from El Segundo, California, to TSL’s base in Northridge, California, after which TSL will commence production and shipping of JLCooper solutions. It ensures continuity of service and support for JLCooper’s global customer base across pro AV, live events, music, radio, and education markets.

JLCooper’s range of interfaces will be integrated into TSL’s Hummingbird control ecosystem, giving operators and engineers expanded options for connecting and controlling systems within software-defined, cloud, and hybrid workflows. The addition of MIDI control and communication solutions also broadens TSL’s reach into music and audio production.

Matthew Quade, CEO of TSL, said: “With the sad news of Jim Cooper’s passing, it was important to find a way to secure the future for JLCooper’s revered technology, while ensuring continuity for its customers, and we’re glad we’ve been able to move so quickly to achieve this.”

Chuck Thompson, general manager of JLCooper Electronics, added: “We were all terribly shocked and saddened by Jim’s passing, and have been working round the clock to find a way forward for his business that would ensure his legacy continues and maintains support for the users that have grown to love JLCooper solutions for the past 46 years. I can’t imagine a better home for the brand and products.”

JLCooper Electronics was founded 46 years ago and serves customers across pro AV, broadcast, live events, and education. TSL is known for its Hummingbird control platform and broader broadcast technology portfolio.
