X2O videowall tech drives 900-employee photo board

A videowall powered by X2O Media’s content management platform has become a key element in supporting company culture at a rapidly expanding technology services provider.

When St Cloud, Minnesota-based Marco had less than 100 employees, it began the tradition of hanging printed pictures of every employee – sorted by hire date – on a 3m x 9m wall. As the company grew to over 900 employees, however, the wall wasn’t large enough and the process of sorting printed photos became cumbersome and time-consuming. For its tradition to live on, Marco required a solution that would accommodate the company’s growth and automate the sorting process. The answer was an employee photo videowall.

Featuring 55in displays in a 5×2 configuration, Marco’s video wall cycles through pictures of all employees – still sorted by hire date – in 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. With the visual communications platform providing simple content updating, If an employee joins or leaves the company, the photos are automatically resorted. Marco displays additional employee content, such as recognising winners of the company’s C.A.R.E. (Customers Are Really Everything) award, in a scrolling ticker below their photo. In addition, Marco can easily update and display its office locations as the company continues to expand geographically.

“Our employee photo videowall is an important part of Marco and has become a symbol of our culture that resonates with our employees, customers, and vendors,” said Jeff Gau, Marco CEO. “On tours of our corporate headquarters, it is always a highlight. With the X2O platform, it couldn’t be easier to update content on the displays and keep employee photos sorted.”

The X2O platform streamlines content management workflows by simplifying the creation and management of channels for visual communication networks. Using an intuitive GUI, the HTML5-enabled software facilitates creation, scheduling, and playout of dynamic content to any screen including digital displays, video walls, tablets, and smartphones. Linking to internal and external data sources is also simplified, enabling the incorporation of data-driven graphics connected to corporate databases such as SAP, Excel spreadsheets, or RSS feeds. Users drag and drop content to create channels quickly from HD video, still images, 3D animations, PowerPoint slides, and more.
