Stewart Filmscreen CEO Grant Stewart passes away

Grant Stewart, president and CEO of Stewart Filmscreen, passed away on the morning of 27 October, after bravely battling cancer. He was 60.

Grant Stewart, president and CEO of Stewart Filmscreen, passed away on the morning of 27 October, after bravely battling cancer. He was 60. He is survived by his wife Mary, their two children, his father Pat and the entire Stewart family. Mary retains ownership of the company.

“Grant will be sorely missed by many in both his personal life and the AV industry,” said Don Stewart, Stewart Filmscreen CTO and Grant’s cousin.

A third-generation leader of Stewart Filmscreen, Grant was the grandson of Stewart Filmscreen founder Roy Stewart. Under Grant’s leadership, the company developed groundbreaking products such as the Director’s Choice line of screens, the award-winning LuminEsse ‘edgeless’ rigid front projection system, and the value-positioned Cima line. Stewart Filmscreen recently launched a new website designed to make it even easier for commercial and residential integrators to specify the right screen for any job.

As the company moves forward, Grant’s cousins Tom and Don Stewart will work closely with Mary to guide the day-to-day operations of Stewart Filmscreen.

“During this difficult time, we would like to thank all our employees, reps, dealers, and supporters for their many years of devotion to the Stewart product line and to the Stewart family, in particular,” stated Don Stewart. “Tuesday was a sad day in our company’s history. We have lost a great leader, an innovator in the industry, a devoted family member, and a close friend. We ask you to please keep Grant’s family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through the grieving process.”

He added that the company as a whole will honour Grant’s memory and wishes by continuing to build upon the rich legacy started by Roy and carried on by Grant, and by maintaining Stewart Filmscreen’s position as an industry leader in projection screen technology.

At the time this news was released, a public memorial service was not being planned. In lieu of flowers and other sentiments, contributions can be made in Grant Stewart’s name to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas or to the US Biathlon Team, in New Gloucester, Maine.
