NEC Display Solutions Europe has announced its next generation of professional (P Series) large format displays. Features of the updated range include a human sensor, near field communications (NFC) and remote browser control.
The new NEC MultiSync P Series, available in 40, 46, 55, 70 and 80in models, are all full-featured professional displays designed for demanding retail signage, transportation and other mission-critical 24/7 applications. They feature LED backlighting with high-performance commercial-grade LCD panels; this allows for lower power consumption, a slimmer design and reduced weight compared to predecessors. Along with other power and thermal management features, the LED backlighting ensures that the new P Series displays align with NEC’s Green Vision for sustainability and are as eco-friendly as possible.
The human sensor can be both an energy saver and an enabler of creativity. It detects a presence in front of the display and can be configured to change various settings – such as input, volume or brightness – when someone approaches, and to engage power-saving modes if no-one is present.
Incorporating an NFC sensor (and matching app for Android devices) is intended to reduce installation cost, as displays can be configured before they are mounted. Installers set the configuration once in the app and then just copy settings on all displays in the install without the displays needing to be connected to power. Maintenance is also simplified as service-relevant information can easily be downloaded by just holding a tablet or smartphone to the display; this also makes failure reporting more convenient for the user.
Similarly, a memo function in the on-screen display can be used to store useful information for users or service staff and browser control is available for configuring and administering displays through a web browser rather than on the screen display.
Installation cost is further reduced by additional capabilities such as an auto Tile Matrix for easy video wall set-up and the support for video and signal daisy chaining up to 100 units. This includes LAN daisy chaining with network switching capabilities. Features such as superfast input switching speeds and point zoom enhance the user experience. Three integrated memory banks of the programmable Look-Up-Table (LUT) are available to store different colour calibration settings, saving time and effort during set up for mobile installations or fixed installations with varying brightness or colour temperature requirements.
“Our new P Series sets the standard for professional large-format displays. They bring innovations that make the products more environmentally friendly, easier to use and cheaper to install and run,” said Thorsten Prsybyl, section manager large format displays at NEC Display Solutions Europe.
“NEC Display Solutions remains on the forefront of this evolution and we are constantly looking for ways to make our displays better in every sense. This new range was developed freshly from the ground showing that display innovation has not come to a standstill. Our professional range of large format displays has been providing rock-solid performance in some of the most demanding environments, and now we are taking that to the next level.”
The new models also incorporate an interface extension slot and NEC’s OPS option slot, which allows for the integration of single board computers and other option slot products based on the NEC/Intel OPS standard without the need to stow external equipment. The new interface extension slot options offer legacy support of old analogue video signals as well as additional digital inputs.
The new MultiSync P Series models will start to become available from November 2013. NEC Display Solutions Europe offers a three-year pan-European service warranty including the backlight.
