Dubai’s Irish Village Pub expands outdoor terrace with Meyer Sound

Dubai’s Irish Village pub has installed a Meyer Sound loudspeaker system based around UPJunior-XP 48 V VariO loudspeakers. Abu Dhabi-based Systech Middle East was enlisted to specify, install, and commission the new system for the venue’s recently expanded outdoor terrace, which now accommodates 3,500 people.

The venue’s management required a system that could deliver ambient daytime music and also be used for live entertainment in the evenings and at weekends. Having encountered Meyer Sound systems before, Dave Cattanach, The Irish Village’s general manager, and Jason Smith, manager, once again turned to the audio manufacturer.

“The UPJunior-XPs were our first choice because they set a new standard for power and clarity in systems suitable for outdoor applications,” commented Malek Ghorayeb, general manager of Systech Middle East. “They are also very reliable—vital for a venue that makes heavy use of its PA.”

Designed to cover the large terrace, the outdoor system includes eight UPJunior-XP loudspeakers. The are supplemented by two UPA-1P loudspeakers, with low frequencies powered by two 500-HP subwoofers. Driving the system is a Galileo loudspeaker management system with a Galileo 616 processor.

“Since the installation of the Meyer speakers, the response from customers has been very positive,” said Cattanach. “The balance and clarity of the sound has noticeably improved. Plus, the musicians love it.”

Drew Jones, a regular performer at The Irish Village both as a soloist and a member of the four-piece band The Maplejacks, added: “With the Meyer speakers, the venue has an even volume wherever you sit, along with added clarity and warmth. It really feels like people can actually appreciate what I’m playing now.”
