Daktronics to manufacture and install displays for University of St Thomas’ new arena

When the new, multi-purpose Lee & Penny Anderson Arena opens at the university in St Paul, Minnesota, US, on October 24 there will be a new centerhung and video walls

Daktronics displays are being installed in the newly constructed Lee & Penny Anderson Arena, at the University of St Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota. A centerhung and video walls are among the main displays that Dakronics is manufacturing and installing in time for the arena’s opening on October 24, 2025.

The centerhung will be the focal point of the installation and will feature four curved displays. Each display will measures approximately 11.5ft high by 21.5ft wide with a convex, outward curvature. Above the main displays, a ring display will circle the configuration measuring roughly 4ft high by 92ft in circumference. All five displays will feature 5.9mm pixel spacing.

The main centerhung displays will be capable of variable content zoning to allow each to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of content. This content could be live video, instant replays, statistics and game information, graphics and animations, or sponsorship messages, depending on the event and needs of the university.

Circling the action, a ribbon display is being mounted to the seating fascia. This display will measure approximately 2.5ft high by 622ft wide with a 10mm pixel spacing.

For basketball, closer to the court, five scorers tables will combine to measure 2.5ft high by 50ft wide and capable of moving into any configuration depending on the event. These will also feature 5.9mm pixel spacing.

These displays will provide the opportunity to highlight sponsors throughout events as well as to provide additional statistics, game information and graphics to keep fans engaged in each event.

An all-in-one smart video wall display will also be installed at the main arena entry. This display will measure 9ft high by 16ft wide with a tight 2.5mm pixel spacing for up-close viewing.

Phil Esten, vice president and director of athletics at St. Thomas, said: “Daktronics is a global innovation and technology leader, which aligns well with our expectations for both fan and student-athlete experience. St. Thomas Athletics is proud to partner with Daktronics on this transformative project where the overall fan experience and game-day atmosphere reflect the university’s commitment to our stakeholders and bright future.”

Joey Hulsebus, sales representative, Daktronics, added: “Moving from Division III to Division I is a major transition and this project for Lee & Penny Anderson Arena plays an integral part in delivering the game-day experience the university desires from this move. We’ve had a great, long partnership with the University of St. Thomas and are excited to see this new chapter unfold for its athletics programme.”

A Daktronics Show Control solution will provide a combination of display control software,  video processing, data integration and playback hardware.

In addition to the equipment installation, University of St Thomas is also receiving a digital content package to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services.
