AssoDS – New digital signage association in Italy

AssoDS - the Association of Digital Signage operators - has been created in Italy to provide a forum for all those involved in the industry.

As digital signage becomes more pervasive and more embedded in the fabric of everyday life, it is becoming increasingly important that digital signage companies work together to represent the industry to government and the media, to share experiences and to create a framework of best practice. That’s the thinking behind the creation of AssoDS in Italy – the Association of Digital Signage operators.

“AssoDS was founded with the purpose of giving visibility to professionals and entrepreneurs in this new communications market that is characterised by such passion and creativity,” said Giuseppe Andrianò, president of AssoDS (pictured). “We want to represent a community of individuals with the specific intention of creating guidelines, developing specific business models – and also helping members to avoid the mistakes made by others. We want to create real benchmarks for an industry in which many of the lines are not yet clear and defined.”

The original idea behind AssoDS came about in May 2009, when a LinkedIn group was created. A meeting in October this year saw the AssoDS project really take off, according to Andrianò, and the group was officially launched at Viscom Italia.

“We do not just want to address the narrow circle of those working in digital signage, but anyone who works in the field of digital proximity communications such as proximity marketing, instore audio and video and so on,” continued Andrianò. “The association is equally open to collaboration with other agencies or industry associations, with the aim of extending our understanding and appreciating the scope of digital technologies in stores and in out of home environments.”
