Tricorne Premium LED selected for world’s largest cinema screen

The 30m × 16m display, supplied by GDC Technology, is scheduled for installation at the CINEMAGNUM auditorium in Nuremberg, Germany, with completion planned for autumn 2026

Tricorne Premium LED technology has been selected for a 30m-wide cinema LED screen that is expected to become the world’s largest when it is installed at CINEMAGNUM, the flagship auditorium of CINECITTA’ in Nuremberg, Germany. Measuring 30m wide by 16m high, the display is scheduled for completion in autumn 2026.

Supplied by GDC Technology, the display features an 8K+ native resolution and a curved design intended to improve viewing angles across the auditorium. It will span the full width and height of the screen wall as part of a premium large-format (PLF) cinema upgrade.

The display uses micro-perforated, acoustically transparent LED panels designed to allow sound to pass through the screen rather than being routed around it. According to GDC Technology, the design supports HDR image performance while allowing cinema speakers to be positioned behind the display, in line with conventional cinema audio layouts.

Man Nang Chong, CEO of GDC Technology, said: “Perfect sound-from-picture synchronisation and a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling canvas have always been the holy grail of LED cinema. Tricorne Premium LED’s proprietary micro-perforated technology finally achieves both – delivering a fully immersive visual experience without sacrificing a single decibel of audio fidelity. At CINEMAGNUM, audiences will experience HDR visuals and immersive sound in perfect harmony.”

Mr Weber, founder and president of CINECITTA’, added: “This investment in the world’s largest cinema LED display – featuring unprecedented image resolution exceeding 8K – reflects our unwavering commitment to cinematic innovation. We are proud to partner with GDC Technology and ECCO Cine Supply & Service to deliver this extraordinary HDR visual and auditory experience to European audiences, embarking on a new era for motion picture exhibition.”

Thomas Rüttgers, founder of ECCO Cine Supply and Service, added: “ECCO has been Europe’s pioneering service provider for installing and maintaining cinema LED since 2021. When I first saw HDR cinema LED with micro-perforation that met Hollywood’s DCI Direct View HDR standard, I knew instantly that it would mark a decisive step forward in the history of cinema.”

GDC Technology and ECCO Cine Supply and Service GmbH have formalised an exclusive reseller agreement covering Tricorne Premium LED across the German-speaking market. The companies said installations and confirmed orders for the technology had reached 25 units worldwide within six months of its launch.

CINEMAGNUM’s existing Dolby Atmos installation is among the largest in the world. The venue said the new screen would eventually be paired with active glasses for 3D presentations.
