Lightware has announced SNMPv3-based monitoring support for selected Taurus devices, available from firmware v1.20.0. The update is intended to allow IT administrators and AV integrators to bring Taurus endpoints into existing network and device monitoring environments.
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is used to collect device information and support IT system monitoring, allowing tools to track parameters such as uptime and interface status, and to feed dashboards, reports and alerts within a monitoring solution’s own interface. With the update, Taurus UCX, Taurus TPX and Taurus TPN devices can be monitored for access, system health and network interface status without the need for specific API interfaces, using established SNMP manager solutions such as SolarWinds, Zabbix and Nagios. SNMPv3 includes authentication and encryption features.
Beyond standard SNMP elements, Lightware also provides Taurus-specific SNMP elements via MIB parameters, including device label, serial number, CPU temperature, motherboard health status and link status. SNMP must first be enabled and configured on the Lightware device via LDC/WebLDC or REST API, with authentication type and password setup handled through the REST API. Once configured, the SNMP manager can be set to pull status parameters regularly to support custom dashboards and alerting.
