Lightware powers major AV upgrade at Eindhoven University

Hungarian signal management specialist's Taurus UCX and Smart Dock systems are being rolled out in over 600 meeting rooms and 150 classrooms at Dutch institution in six-year project

Lightware Visual Engineering is providing AV connectivity infrastructure across the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, with its Taurus UCX-4×3-HC40 matrix switcher and Taurus Smart Dock at the centre of a campus-wide standardisation project.

The university, which spans 25 buildings and specialises in engineering, science and technology, is working with integration partners Kinly, Presentation Partner and Fidato. Begun in November 2024 and expected to take a total of six years to complete, the project will have transformed over 600 meeting rooms and 150 classrooms with a unified USB-C based infrastructure.

Microsoft Teams Rooms based on Cisco hardware with dual screens have also been fitted with a Taurus UCX-1×1, allowing users to join meetings at the touch of a button. BYOD meeting rooms using Sennheiser Teams Connect bars allow laptop connection via USB-C while making use of room peripherals.

The Taurus UCX-4×3-HC40 allows lecturers to connect laptops and access room assets including displays, cameras and USB peripherals through a single cable, with laptop charging of up to 100W also supported. The Taurus Smart Dock serves the university’s meeting rooms, with integrated LARA automation enabling remote management and automatic shutdown of room equipment after use.

Ruud Vercoulen, project manager at Eindhoven University of Technology, said: “We first became aware of Lightware’s AV solutions when we visited Tilburg University and saw how the products had transformed their learning spaces. We contacted Hans at Lightware Belgium, who kindly invited us to the Düsseldorf Training Centre. Here, we were shown the impressive capabilities of the Taurus UCX-4×3-HC40 and knew this series would be a great fit for our classrooms and meeting rooms.”

Vercoulen added: “Changing connectivity to a single cable, along with Lightware’s plug and go products, has revolutionised the everyday user experience here at the university. Staff have commented on how easy the products are to use, and they really love the flexibility of being able to connect any device in a matter of seconds with just one cable.”
