Slovak Philharmonic equips new control room with Genelec

A Genelec solution, comprising 1238 CF monitors has been installed at the Reduta Concert Hall in Bratislava as part of a revamp to the venue's auditorium.

The Reduta Concert Hall in Bratislava, home of the Slovak Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, was recently completely refurbished and updated. Alongside the remodelled auditorium, a state-of-the-art control room has also been created featuring Genelec 1238 CF monitors.
The Reduta building dates back to the beginning of the 20th century and over the decades had deteriorated due to effects of time and weather. The latest rebuild, carried out at a cost of €2 million, has ensured the space is suitable for concerts, literary events, small theatre performances and poetry readings. The Reduta has also been the venue for many critically acclaimed recordings. A new control room has been created from two separate rooms with the design and installation of the equipment carried out Centron, a Bratislava-based reseller, and Stanislav Benacka of the in-house audio team.
The room is wide but shallow and the Genelec SAM software was able to ‘virtualise’ the space to create a perfectly calibrated audio monitoring environment.
“Being able to rely on SAM to create the ideal listening environment was a great advantage on this project,” says Richard Varkonda, Centron’s technical manager. “The 1238CF is a big, powerful monitor and with the help of SAM we were able to set up a system that could reproduce all the dynamics of the auditorium environment, completely and faithfully, which is absolutely critical for recording and production.”
The Genelec SAM system allows monitors to be controlled with digital networking to enable the building of highly flexible computer controlled systems of monitors. The acoustical features of SAM can be optimised with software calibration tools to suit individual working styles and systems of monitors. One of these tools is AutoCalTM – Genelec´s acoustic calibration solution that is supplied alsongside the Genelec Loudspeaker Management software package, GLM.
The Genelec 1238CF is a compact three-way DSP monitoring loudspeaker including drivers, multiple power amplifiers and digital signal processing (DSP) circuitry. The 1238CF is compatible with proprietary Genelec Loudspeaker Manager (GLM) control software and can be combined with Genelec 8200/7200 Series products in the same control network. The 1038CF is optimised for systems utilizing one or multiple subwoofers in medium sized control rooms and suited for music recording studios, film and video post-production and general broadcasting monitoring as well as for mastering suites.
