Extron AV system deployed at Singapore mosque

DXP HD 4K matrix switcher, streaming processor, TouchLink Pro touchpanels and DTP distribution infrastructure support video distribution, streaming and control across four levels of As-Syafaah mosque in Sembawang

Extron AV technology has been installed across the four levels of As-Syafaah mosque in Sembawang, Singapore, following a renovation aimed at modernising video distribution, streaming and control across the 4,000-capacity facility.

The project was designed by pro AV consultant UnitedVenus Engineering Services and installed by Maxxmedia International, with a requirement to complete the work within a month without disrupting the mosque’s five daily prayers.

The system is centred on an Extron DXP HD 4K PLUS matrix switcher handling AV signal routing from sources including PTZ cameras, PCs, microphones and audio mixers. Six DTP HD DA 4K 330 distribution amplifiers expand content from the main switcher over twisted pair cable to 24 DTP HDMI 4K 330 receivers, feeding 14 displays and 10 projectors across reception areas, prayer halls, classrooms and the main auditorium. DVS 605 scalers with switching and DTP HDMI 4K 330 transmitters and receivers handle signal distribution throughout the building.

For streaming and recording, the mosque uses an Extron SMP 351 H.264 Streaming Media Processor with Dual Recording LinkLicense, allowing Friday prayers and sermons to be streamed to monitors throughout the building and distributed to overflow rooms across multiple floors. The Dual Recording LinkLicense enables independent recordings from two separate video sources simultaneously, with recorded content made accessible to congregants online via platforms such as Facebook.

Control is handled by an Extron IPCP Pro 550 xi control processor in the main AV control room, with a second IPCP Pro 350 xi serving the AV sub-distribution system. TouchLink Pro touchpanels are positioned throughout the mosque, including a 12in Tabletop TouchLink Pro in the control room, allowing non-technical staff to manage video layouts, picture-in-picture, PTZ cameras, video routing and audio presets. An EBP 100 six-button wall-mounted eBUS panel provides additional control, including operation of the main hall’s motorised blinds.

Shamsudin Bin Isnin, of UnitedVenus Engineering Services, said: “We had budget constraints, but with the help of Extron, we were able to design a system that met our requirements and stayed within budget.”

Alan Hong, sales and project manager at Maxxmedia International, said: “Extron was chosen for their established brand, fantastic support, and local repair centre. Extron products have been successfully deployed at many mosques around Singapore and are well known for their reliability, ease of use, and performance.”

He added: “Extron products have proven to be a robust solution with excellent support, ensuring they will be a durable, long-lasting choice.”
