Anacove has equipped the Holiday Inn Express San Diego South – Chula Vista with its AI-powered smart thermostats, asset tracking devices, and a pilot rollout of Staff Alert smart nametags, in a deployment designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce equipment loss, and enhance staff response times.
The technology is managed via the Anacove Smart Dashboard, which provides a centralised interface for monitoring HVAC performance, asset locations, and staff activity. The dashboard is designed to offer real-time alerts and monthly summary reports, allowing hotel management to act quickly on issues and assess trends without adding complexity.
The Smart Thermostat system is designed to remotely adjust and monitor room conditions, pre-cool guest rooms before check-in, and flag potential HVAC failures before they escalate. The Asset Tracking feature, using compact tags on equipment like cribs and luggage carts, is designed to help staff quickly locate items and avoid losses.
Victor M. Carrera, general manager at the hotel, said: “We’ve already noted measurable energy savings and project results in line with our sister hotels. I’ve also been very impressed by the Anacove Smart Thermostat’s ability to pre-cool rooms before arrival, a great advantage that improves guest satisfaction while also reducing HVAC strain.
“The system also flags malfunctioning AC units early, allowing us to deploy our maintenance teams before problems escalate – helping to reduce repair costs and mitigate guest complaints.”
He added that tracking devices had “virtually eliminated losses” and reduced retrieval times.
“With remote AC control, front desk teams can fix room comfort issues instantly without sending maintenance, remotely via the simple dashboard from the front desk – eliminating the need to physically go to the room,” explained Carrera. “That frees them up for other tasks and means guests benefit from quicker, more efficient service.”
The smart nametag pilot, active with one-third of the hotel’s 30-person team, allows management to track staff movement and improve response in emergencies, particularly in camera-free zones, Anacove says.
Carrera added: “The identifiers for luggage carts and cribs have minimised losses and improved accountability, and the name tags with location devices enhance staff safety and allow us to monitor performance. Anacove’s support has been excellent, and their solutions are cost-effective compared to others in the market.”
Carrera has suggested dashboard improvements such as map-based visualisation, and expressed interest in predictive diagnostics for HVAC systems.
Founded in 2020, Anacove specialises in sensor-driven automation for hospitality, offering tools for energy, asset, and safety management, all integrated via a unified platform. The company says that prior deployments have achieved 30-40 percent HVAC energy savings, with ROI within 14 months.
