At the heart of the vibrant British Art Fair 2024 held at London’s Saatchi Gallery, projection mapping artist Lucinda Dilworth invited visitors into a transformative visual experience where painted texture, fluid animation, and precision projection converge.
Working alongside Kei London and a team of fellow creatives, Dilworth crafted an installation of six evolving scenes, each accessible with the tap of a button. The works married physical artwork with digital light powered by ViewSonic’s high brightness laser projectors.

TURNING SPATIAL CONSTRAINTS INTO CREATIVE ADVANTAGE
For Dilworth, the challenge was clear. Ambient light in the open gallery space compromised the integrity of her colour-rich animations. Artwork and projector mounting options were limited and unconventional, and thus the entire installation demanded precise alignment across multiple projectors.
To deliver, the team deployed 6,000 ANSI Lumens ViewSonic laser projectors to maintain vivid saturation even under daylight and spotlight conditions. With no central ceiling mounts available, a short throw ViewSonic LS921WU projector was wall-mounted and angled from the side, delivering a 100-inch image from just 1.7 meters away to make the most of the compact booth.
With wall mounting and angling in play, features such as 360-degree rotation, horizontal and vertical lens shift, and 4-corner adjustment proved indispensable, facilitating precise overlap and seamless blending of visuals across multiple canvases. All while using the smallest number of projectors possible.
A WORKFLOW WHERE ART, ANIMATION, AND AI CONVERGE
Dilworth started the art installation with traditional paintings, then digitised them for animation in After Effects and Procreate. She layered motion into static forms, then applied AI-powered colour effects for subtle distortion and rich rendering. The result: a layered narrative that begins with the physical, evolves through motion, and arrives as light. ViewSonic projectors preserved subtle brushwork, nuanced layers of animation, and colour shifts that pop against ambient light. They helped make the entire piece truly immersive.
“ViewSonic’s installation laser projectors deliver exceptional versatility for creating immersive environments,” said Dilworth. “Even in compact spaces, they make it easy to map and blend images seamlessly while reducing the number of projectors required.”
LIGHT MEETS STORYTELLING
In this project, light was more than a tool. It became a partner and co-creator. Through the union of hardware and imagination, light turned a compact gallery space into a boundless canvas. For artists, integrators, and venue operators alike, this underlines a clear message. When the right technology supports vision, possibilities expand exponentially.
For wider adoption, ViewSonic’s comprehensive laser projector lineup offers up to 8,500 ANSI Lumens and simplifies installations while ensuring exceptional clarity and colour vibrancy. The same technology that powers immersive artistic displays adapts effortlessly to large venues, classrooms, and commercial spaces. It also combines visual excellence with ease of installation.
Available in multiple options, ViewSonic’s projector lineup delivers up to 300-inch images to suit various environments and applications. The range features the ultra short-throw LS832WU with a 0.25 throw ratio for compact spaces, the LS731WU with advanced edge-blending, and the LS901-4K for image warping in 4K resolution. All simplify setup and alignment by design.
Additionally, compatibility with Crestron, Q-SYS, AMX, PJ Link, ATEN, and Extron ensures seamless integration and control for better proAV user support. Powered by mercury-free laser light sources that deliver up to 30,000 hours of reliable operation while reducing power consumption by 51%, the ViewSonic projector range achieves an ideal balance of high performance and sustainability.
