AVoIP adoption slows despite industry buzz, says report

While interest remains high, shipments of encoders and decoders fell 15 percent in 2024 as economic pressures and fragmented standards temper investment, says Futuresource Consulting’s analysis

Futuresource Consulting says AVoIP remains one of the most talked-about technologies in professional AV, but adoption has slowed. Its latest report, “Futuresource AV Over IP” finds a 15 percent decline in encoder and decoder shipments in 2024, reflecting tighter budgets and cautious spending among end-users.

The consultancy notes that while interest in AVoIP is high, many organisations are taking a “fix and mend” approach, postponing large-scale system overhauls.

Futuresource analysts also highlight fragmentation as a key barrier. The report said: “Buyers are wary of becoming locked into proprietary ecosystems.”

The analysis also pointed out that although the open IPMX standard is gaining traction, it faces strong competition from established protocols such as NDI HX.

The research indicates a hybrid future for AV distribution, with users increasingly deploying solutions that bridge legacy and IP-based equipment. This approach allows for gradual upgrades without overhauling entire systems at once.

“End-users are now driving the conversation, demanding open and interoperable solutions,” Futuresource added, noting that the market remains healthy and poised for steady growth over the next five years.

The full 37-page report includes global performance data, vertical analysis, and forecasts for 1G and 10G solutions, along with accompanying Excel spreadsheets detailing shipment volumes, installed base, and sales by region.
