Landmark hotel project for Shuttlesound

The major audio fit-out took place at the Grange St Paul’s Hotel in the city of London. The project – one component of a fully integrated hotel-wide AV solution – entailed the installation by Kingdom Services of Electro-Voice sound reinforcement equipment.

Grange Hotels’ director of technical services, Rob Goodings, worked closely with Shuttlesound’s David Howe and Kingdom Services’ John Smith throughout the installation. Working to a brief that called for a fully integrated solution, Howe and Smith devised a CobraNet-enabled digital audio network infrastructure encompassing every area of the hotel. The design is based on the Electro-Voice NetMax digital audio system controller, 10 units of which manage the amplifiers and loudspeakers throughout 10 floors of the complex.

Across those 10 floors, the EV range is also represented by EviD compact speakers (bars and restaurants) and RX212s and Xsubs (nightclub), among other units, but arguably the most notable deployment of EV loudspeakers is on the conference floors. The Wren Room features an EV XLD compact line array in an L/C/R configuration, while the Shakespeare Room features a separate stereo EV XLE ultra-compact line array; these systems can be operated both individually and together, should event clients wish to use the two rooms as one large space.

All loudspeakers are powered by EV amplifiers – CP 3000S and 4000S for the auditorium line arrays, and PA Series devices for the EviDs.

“I am delighted with the results at the Grange St Paul’s,” said Goodings. “I like to surround myself with professionals and, from the top down, Shuttlesound gives me that – serious expertise while keeping a mindful eye on the budget. The equipment is brilliant, accompanied by a flexible business attitude that is all about getting the job done.”

Looking forward, Shuttlesound and EV is to supply the hotel chain’s next installation project at the Grand Tower Hotel, adjacent to the Tower of London.
