Audient has launched Horizon, a new range of Thunderbolt 3 audio interfaces designed for pro studio applications. The range comprises the Horizon 8P, Horizon 16 and Horizon 32, with a common architecture that can scale across multiple units.
The interfaces use Thunderbolt 3 to deliver claimed round-trip latency of 0.99ms at 192kHz, allowing engineers to track through native plug-ins without proprietary DSP hardware. The company says the system is designed around modern host processing and macOS workflows rather than a closed plug-in ecosystem.
The Horizon 8P provides 24 inputs and 32 outputs, with eight Audient Console Mic Preamps and ORBIT Control variable impedance. The Horizon 16 offers 34-in/34-out connectivity with 32 channels of conversion and a dedicated stereo mix-bus path, while the Horizon 32 provides 50-in/50-out connectivity and 64 channels of analogue I/O across eight DB25 connections.
Andrew Allen, chief product officer, Audient, said: “Horizon has been five years in the making; the most significant R&D investment we’ve ever put into a product range. We spared no compromise at component level, and the result is best-on-the-market audio and latency performance. This is a modern system built for modern workflows.”
Up to four Horizon units can be daisy-chained using a single macOS driver, with the company specifying a maximum 200 × 200 I/O configuration using four Horizon 32 units. The interfaces also feature digital recall of input gains and system settings, ADAT expansion, BNC Word Clock I/O and selectable reference levels.
Allen added: “In a session, the interface should get out of the way. We designed Horizon so engineers can focus on the performance, not the routing – and we redesigned the software from the ground up, paying close attention to the user experience.”
The Horizon range will be available from Audient dealers worldwide from September 28.
