The shift from SDI to IP-based infrastructure and the growing adoption of cloud workflows will be the focus of the third panel at the inaugural AV & Broadcast Summit, taking place in London on June 24 and co-hosted by Installation and TVBEurope. The panel will feature experts from the BBC, EBU/ITU, Matrox, University of the Arts London and Techex.
Scheduled for 1115am-1145am, The Media eXchange Layer: IP, Cloud and the Infrastructure Behind Converged Media will explore how software-defined infrastructure, cloud-based workflows and network-based signal transport are creating a shared technology layer used by both broadcasters and AV professionals.
Moderated by Jenny Priestley, content director at TVBEurope, the discussion will examine the practical realities of IP standards, hybrid production environments and the growing influence of IT architecture across modern media systems.
Among the panellists is Peter Brightwell, lead R&D engineer, BBC. Brightwell leads work on live media infrastructure at BBC R&D and is heavily involved in industry interoperability initiatives through organisations including AMWA and the EBU. He is also part of the leadership team behind the open-source Media eXchange Layer (MXL) project.
Joining him is Andy Quested, chair, ITU-R Working Party 6C, EBU/ITU. Quested has played a leading role in the development of broadcast standards ranging from HD and UHD production to HDR television, immersive media and AI-related initiatives. He also recently led work on an ITU report examining the future of broadcast production.
Daniel Robinson, product manager at panel sponsor Matrox, brings experience in software-defined and cloud-native media infrastructure. He leads development of the Matrox ORIGIN framework and has worked extensively on Kubernetes-based deployments, IP production systems and cloud architectures.
Providing an end-user perspective is Martha Zantides, delivery manager AV, University of the Arts London. Zantides has more than 30 years of experience across IT, AV and enterprise technology projects, including software integration and large-scale digital transformation initiatives.
David Mitchinson, solutions director at panel sponsor Techex, completes the experts. Having held roles at organisations including the BBC, Ericsson and Appear, Mitchinson has worked through multiple technology transitions and now focuses on the development of IP-based video workflows and software-defined infrastructure.
The session will explore how far the transition to IP has progressed, where challenges remain and how shared infrastructure is continuing to drive convergence between broadcast and AV.
AV & Broadcast Summit is a one-day event co-hosted by Installation and TVBEurope, bringing together practitioners from both sectors to examine shared workflows, technologies and opportunities across IP, cloud, virtual production, AI, audio and control room design.
Other sessions throughout the day include:
• AV & Broadcast Convergence: Where Are We Now?
• From Broadcast-Only to Enterprise-Ready: How Production Technologies Are Moving Beyond Broadcast
• AI: Automation, Augmentation or Replacement? Rethinking Media Workflows
• Virtual Production Beyond the Studio: From Broadcast Sets to Corporate, Education and Live Events
• The Modern Control Room: Managing Distributed Operations
• The Networking of Sound: Audio at the Intersection of Broadcast and AV
AV & Broadcast Summit takes place on June 24 at Convene, 133 Houndsditch, London, near Liverpool Street Station.
