Memphis smart home enjoys 7-zone video distribution system

Entire setup driven by Just Add Power's 3G Ultra HD Over IP solution

Just Add Power, a leader in video-over-IP distribution, has announced that its 3G Ultra HD Over IP system has been installed in an award-winning Memphis smart home to drive seven zones of video distribution. Integrator Miestro Home Integration utilised Just Add Power’s solutions to deliver content from two AT&T U-verse set-top boxes, a Kaleidescape movie server, Apple TV, and a Blackdove Digital Canvas to a variety of display types. The system offers fast switching speeds, while providing the scalability to accommodate any future displays, sources, or video formats the homeowners might require.

“In the past, we would recommend traditional chassis-based matrix systems for video distribution in our clients’ homes, but these came with a number of limitations,” said Lamar Gibson, president of Miestro Home Integration.

“One of the main drawbacks was their fixed size. If a client needed to add more displays or sources to a maxed-out matrix, they would have to upgrade that hardware as well — to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. With Just Add Power’s 3G Ultra HD Over IP system, all we need to do is add a transmitter or receiver; no major new hardware required. In addition, the platform offers fast switching and unmatched reliability, making it the perfect solution for even the largest of projects.”

Each of the home’s video sources is equipped with Just Add Power’s VBS-HDIP-718AVP 3G+ A/V Pro transmitter, while VBS-HDIP-508 PoE receivers are attached to its displays. The Just Add Power system offers ultra-low 16 ms of latency from source to screen and supports 4K Ultra HD resolutions and HDMI 2.0 devices with HDCP 2.2. The platform enables seamless switching between any resolution HDMI source as well as uncompressed lossless multichannel audio formats, including Dolby Atmos support.

Video wall functionality is built-in for displays installed in portrait and flipped configurations, as well as image push, pull, and pop features. An integrated scaler on the receiver automatically adjusts the picture to fit the screen. The homeowners and guests can easily control each display individually to change the content using Control4 handheld remotes or touchscreens strategically placed throughout the home.

“Not only do the homeowners love their new video distribution system, but the high-tech residence earned a Best Entertainment/Media Room Award at the Memphis Vesta Home Show, and was a runner up for the Consumer Technology Association Mark of Excellence Award for Custom Home of the Year,” explained Taft Stricklin, sales team manager at Just Add Power. “It’s simply an amazing home, and we are extremely proud to have contributed to it.”
