RCF launches new active column speaker array

The NXL 24-A from RCF is a full-range active column speaker array that has been designed to provide high SPL in challenging acoustic environments. Two arrays can be cascaded, creating an array over 2m long.

The NXL 24-A from RCF is a full-range active column speaker array that has been designed to provide high SPL in challenging acoustic environments.

The array is comprised of four 6in high-power woofers and a 2.5in voice coil compression driver, loaded from a waveguide to a horn with 100° constant horizontal directivity and 30° asymmetrical vertical directivity. This is said to achieve a consistent field coverage.

The NXL 24-A is powered by a 1400W peak power digital amplifier, split 400W for the HF and 1,000W for the LF. It delivers a maximum SPL of 131dB. Frequency response is from 65Hz up to 20kHz.

A new generation of DSP handles all the processing within the cabinet – including crossover, equalisation, phase alignment, soft limiting and speaker protections – and allows adjustment for single-column or HF close-coupling applications.

RCF says that the HF horn design allows two line sources to be cascaded, creating an array over 2m long. This increases range and provides excellent control over directivity

Alberto Ruozzi, executive sales director, commented: “NXL 24-A is a column speaker which has to be considered a line source. A line source finds applications every time there are architectural constraints – you want your speaker to be as invisible as possible. It’s very flexible because it can be used on conferences as well as live sound.”
