K-array’s Mugello audio systems have been installed in the 15,000sqft Grand Ballroom of the Capitale New York, an events venue housed in the former Bowery Savings Bank, which was built in 1895. The deployment was designed to address acoustic challenges whilst preserving the historic Beaux-Arts interior.
When hospitality operator Ilya Zavolunov acquired the property, he wanted to preserve the grandeur of the room while improving its technical framework. The scale of the space, the reflective surfaces and the varied event formats required an adaptable system with controlled coverage for the main ballroom as well as smaller event spaces.
Integrator DRVCS AV selected a range of K-array solutions tailored to each area of the venue. The main system comprises Mugello KH3 line arrays paired with Mugello KS5 subwoofers. The company says Mugello’s form factor is designed to hang from the truss structure without competing visually with the ornate 65ft ceiling.
VIP areas in the main ballroom feature Dragon KXT18P tri-axial speakers, whilst secondary zones including mezzanine areas, lounges and VIP rooms use Kayman KY102W line arrays and Thunder KS3P subwoofers. The system is powered by Kommander KA208 amplifiers.
Davel Rodriguez, founder at DRVCS AV, said: “Though not intended to be invisible, Mugello’s slim form factor allows it to hang cleanly from the truss structure without competing with the ornate ceiling. Its power density, intelligibility, and precise control make it perfect for live events, DJs, and corporate productions in complex architectural spaces.”
The venue, which features Venetian glass, marble mosaic floors, Corinthian columns and carved limestone, hosts events ranging from fashion shows to galas and can accommodate 700 seated guests or up to 1,500 standing in the Grand Ballroom.
