K-array fills Africa’s largest hockey arena with 360-degree audio

48 Mugello line array elements and 16 Thunder subwoofers deployed at Rabat Ice Hockey Arena in Morocco with coverage across sport, concerts and public events

K-array has supplied the audio system for the Rabat Ice Hockey Arena in Morocco, described as the largest and most modern hockey arena on the African continent, with the installation designed to deliver consistent, intelligible coverage across a multipurpose venue capable of hosting sporting events, concerts and large-scale public events.

The system comprises 48 Mugello KH2P I passive line array elements, 16 Thunder KS3 I active subwoofers and nine Kommander KA208 amplifiers. The KH2P I is a slim, dual-8in line array element incorporating K-array’s Electronic Beam Steering technology, which allows sound beam dispersion to be digitally adjusted for precise coverage control. The Thunder KS3 I is a compact active subwoofer built around a 21in cone driver and a 4 × 2,500W DSP amplifier module, while the eight-channel KA208 delivers 2,500W per channel. Both are integrated with the K-array Connect ecosystem for remote configuration via mobile app.

The project was delivered by Cegelec, a VINCI Energies subsidiary, with K-array equipment supplied through EcmaPro Systems, the brand’s exclusive distributor in Morocco. K-array’s engineering team provided system design consultation, acoustic modelling, on-site setup and tuning throughout.

Najib Bouskour, director of Axians, a VINCI Energies company, said: “K-array’s combination of precise beam control and clean high output gave us the tools to achieve consistent coverage throughout the venue, whether the arena is hosting a hockey match, a concert or anything else.”

The arena will host the 2026 IIHF Men’s Development Cup in June.
