PL+S 2018: Crest Audio launches Versarray PRO powered line array

The Frankfurt show will see the line array's first appearance anywhere

Described by its manufacturer as revolutionary, Crest Audio’s Versarray PRO powered line array makes its debut at Prolight + Sound 2018.

Comprising the Versarray PRO VR112 line array element and the VR-PRO 215 sub, Versarray PRO is intended for mid-sized line array applications including live entertainment, theatres and houses of worship. It features integrated Dante audio networking and built-in DSP, and is said to deliver premium quality audio in a versatile, networkable package that is quick to hang and easy to set up.

The VR112 features Crest Audio’s latest Mark III ribbon drivers and proprietary CLEAR FORM Waveguide for high-end reproduction. The low end is served by the 12in NEO Black Widow neodymium loudspeaker with dual 4in voice coils, which works in conjunction with Crest’s patented Ram Air Cooling (RAC) design for even greater efficiency and power handling.

The compact, flyable VR-PRO 215 sub, also with RAC design, features dual 15in Black Widow Low Rider drivers and delivers full power down to 35Hz and a peak SPL of 135dB. Both elements benefit from 3,000W of available dynamic power.

The array is fully articulating, thanks to an ingenious, easy-to-adjust three-pin system on the back, which enables a range of configurations that are Crest says are simply unachievable in other comparably priced systems. The result is “near-perfect coverage and audio quality” across a vast range of applications, according to the company.

Furthermore, Versarray PRO includes Auto-Hang DSP technology, a quick and easy push-button control option that enables the array to be adjusted according to the number of cabinets, speaker positioning and more. Combined with the innovative FlyQWIK hardware, a Versarray PRO system can be accurately deployed in a fraction of the time required by competing systems, says Crest.

As an active system, Versarray PRO features sophisticated on-board DSP processing including FIR filtering. Some parameters may be accessed from the back panel for quick and easy initial set-up, or the whole system may be configured and controlled remotely via a dedicated Windows-based software utility. Dante network control and audio are delivered via a single Cat5/6 cable, and redundant analogue connections have also been included.

Versarray PRO can be seen at the Peavey Commercial Audio stand (Hall 3.1, A21).
