A new family of HDMI over HDBaseT extenders, which transmit and receive 4K content using standard CAT5e/UTP cables, is being revealed by Crestron at ISE 2014. In addition, the company has announced that Crestron DigitalMedia matrix switchers, ranging from the 8X8 model to the newest 128X128 edition, are ready for 4K support.
The HD-EXT3-C and HD-EXT4-C support 4K resolution content and can transmit HDMI long distance via HDBaseT using standard CAT5e/UTP cable. Both the HD-EXT3-C and HD-EXT4-C support 4K signals and extend uncompressed, HDCP-protected HDMI content up to 100 metres via HDBaseT without signal degradation. Transmitters, available with black or white faceplates, can either be mounted in a single gang wall box or can be rack mounted.
“From the content side, 4K is quickly taking a foothold in the consumer market. However, up until now, video distribution technology was not available to transmit 4K content throughout the home, to multiple rooms or over long distances,” commented Robin Van Meeuwen, vice-principal of Crestron International.
