Futuristic new install for town visitor centre

Saville Audio Visual has brought the latest interactive digital technology to the new Information Centre in the UK town of York.

Saville Audio Visual has brought the latest interactive digital technology to the new Information Centre in the UK town of York. Situated opposite the famous York Minster, the new Visit York centre features an expandable digital information display system designed, supplied and installed by digital signage specialist Saville.

A variety of content – encompassing advertisers’ promotional video clips, text information, RSS feeds and more – is delivered by a Cayin digital signage server system to a total of five 65in and six 42in professional screens. Different screens can show contrasting content as required, although one of the 65in units is dedicated to the display of an active map of Yorkshire attractions and draws on exclusive, Saville-written software.

Saville has also provided LED information display boards to help guide visitors around the centre, along with a free-standing touch screen kiosk.

Steve Gore-Browne, technical sales manager for Saville AV, commented: “We were delighted to be chosen as the preferred AV partner for Visit York. This is the first project of its type in the UK to provide visitors with a truly immersive experience.”

Gillian Cruddas, chief executive of Visit York, added: “Saville have successfully combined a sleek modern interior into an historic building. Their use of cutting-edge technology means we now have a visitor centre to rival any in the country and a flagship centre for Yorkshire. Visits to the centre were almost double those in the previous year in the first two weeks alone.”
