USB signal extenders, AJA joins Kairos, another hire for TIG, and signage awards deadlines…

We kick off the week with a news digest from the last few days, including more releases from Atlona, AJA joining Panasonic's Kairos programme, Joseph Edwards joining TIG, and the looming Digital Signage Awards early bird deadline...

Long distance extension for USB signals

Atlona has announced the launch of its AT-USB-EX100-KIT long-distance extender kit for USB signals, supporting the transmission of USB 2.0 data up to 100m over a single category-type twisted pair cable.

The company said that the USB-EX100-KIT is ideal for use with video conferencing applications such as Zoom® and Microsoft® Teams®, where USB components including laptops, cameras, microphones, and speakers are often located in different areas of a room. It is also “equally well-suited to classroom environments for extending USB signals between a touch-screen interactive display and the instructor’s laptop, or from a USB camera at the back of the room to the lecture capture system in a rack”.

“Multiple Atlona switchers and extenders already support USB extension alongside high-quality AV signals, but we have also seen significant demand for a dedicated USB offering,” said David Shamir, VP of product management at Atlona. “The USB-EX100-KIT provides an affordable, straightforward solution for applications where only extension of USB signals is required – for example, connecting remote USB cameras or expanding existing AV systems that do not have native USB support.”

AJA joins Panasonic’s Kairos Alliance programme

AJA Video Systems has joined Panasonic’s Kairos Alliance Partner programme as a verified hardware partner for the new Kairos IP live video production platform. The company said that it is collaborating with Panasonic to establish Kairos as a new standard for live production, offering optimised performance and video quality for live workflows.

“As remote production continues gaining traction in 2020, IP solutions are critical for ensuring production crews are able to control equipment from any location and collaborate at safe distances,” explained Nick Rashby, president, AJA Video Systems. “AJA’s partnership with Panasonic around Kairos further improves IP workflows for live production, with our powerful fleet of IP Mini-Converters for bridging HDMI and SDI with IP fully integrated with Kairos and Panasonic’s live switching platform.”
